GLOBAL DANCE FESTIVAL RECAP
by Austin Jones
Los Angelinos and beyond! It’s time to give Colorado EDM promoter Ha Hau his props for consistently killing Red Rocks with the massively fun Global Dance Festival. The 3 day festival last weekend thumped bass-in-your-face from some of the best artists in the world: Empire of the Sun, Kid Cudi, Major Lazer, Skrillex, Benny Benassi, Avicii and much more. Anyone reading this who has not seen a show at Red Rocks in Colorado head over to the photo gallery, feel your blood tickle your veins, then consider when you can travel to the Rockies.
Global Dance Festival started a little chaotic last Thursday with the rain, turning red rocks into red mud, but the bad weather did not persist and the crowd’s spirit soared. Kid Cudi is infamous for blowing it on stage (see: Audiotistic, SSMF) but he has really gotten his act together. The see of white people in the crowd loved Cudi. Empire of the Sun did not disappoint either (they never do) with their over-the-top costumes and gyrating guitar player. Thursday was mellow compared to what was to come.
Friday and Saturday were the big nights with our personal faves being Skrillex, Avicii and Benny B. We had a chance to catch up with Skrillex backstage and were very impressed with how down to earth and friendly he was. He was hanging out with the beautiful Kelly Eden who we had the pleasure of photographing.
The feel of GDF- being in the mountains dancing with friends to the best music in the world is truly indescribable. We’d like to extend a big thanks to the GDF crew, Triad Dragons and Anya for all their hard work on this magical event.
