DJ SNAKE

French producer DJ Snake is apparently not new to the game. I only heard of him a few months back, but he worked on Lady Gaga’s 2010 album Born This Way and a couple weeks ago he dropped a guest mix on BBC Radio’s Diplo & Friends. He makes some nice, dirty trap that’s club ready. Closer to DJ Chuckie than A$AP Rocky. His “Bird Machine” is a standout production, and I just love the drop on “Humain” with GB favorite Stromae.

QUADRON

Posted in MUSIC on June 14, 2013 by Keyvon

Quadron quietly stepped onto the underground scene a few years ago with their electronica meets jazz sound, and it was well received. But no one was really up in arms about Quadron’s debut release. However, their new album “Avalanche” is really catching fire, and it’s mostly due to their smoking hot single “Hey Love”. The Danish duo have went from mildly obscure to indie darlings. This is definitely a track that will be appearing on my “Best of 2013″ list. Great female vocals and a solid production, what more can you ask for?

YELLOW CLAW

Major Lazer finally released their second LP Free the Universe last month, but a little while back they released a remix EP with a few gems on there. Amongst one of the tracks was Yellow Claw‘s massive remix of “Get Free”. Get Free was one of the top tracks from 2012 and this is the best remix I’ve heard yet. Yellow Claw make mostly trap music, but the Amsterdam trio adds their own dirty dutch touch to the “genre”. I still don’t know if trap has done enough to earn the title of genre. It’s more of a sound, like fidget or wonky, but I like it. We’ll see how long this craze lasts until we’re onto the next. But in the meantime hit up Yellow Claw’s soundcloud page for more bass heavy beats.

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Posted in MUSIC on May 6, 2013 by Keyvon

Employee of the Year are an unsigned production duo out of France who describe their style as “Slow French”. Which is a unique but accurate description. It’s not really super dancey, but it is sexy and its got a nice groove to it. I posted their Wild Belle remix earlier this year. They recently released a beautifully haunting remix of “The Wheel” by SOHN that I just can not stop playing. Its super infectious. Guys if you’re reading this post please come out to LA. We need a breathe of fresh air like this out here.

So great news everyone. I will be spinning at this year’s Filter Yacht Club Coachella party. I’m on Weekend 2, you can see my name “Keyvon Pierre” in beautiful teal. Hard work pays off. So below are a couple tracks I’ve been digging that will undoubtedly make it into my set.

The first is from blossoming UK siren Jessie Ware. Every time I hear her voice I am blown away by how much she sounds like Goapele. And I have yet another remix from MyKill. A few months ago I posted MyKill’s remix of fun.’s super poppy popular track “We Are Young”. I dug around his soundcloud and found this beautiful gem. Enjoy and get your lazy ass down to Indio on April 18th.

ALUNAGEORGE VS BAAUER

Posted in MUSIC on March 30, 2013 by Keyvon

Everything AlunaGeorge touches is fire. They haven’t missed once yet, and their debut album doesn’t even drop til this summer. This time they join forces with Harlem Shake’s Baauer for a bass-heavy ass shaker. Can’t wait until AG finally comes to the states. They are definitely not to be slept on. Also, big up’s to Baauer for proving he is no one-hit wonder.

CHUBBY FINGERS

Posted in MUSIC on March 25, 2013 by Keyvon

I got this track in my inbox recently. It sort of snuck up on me. Next thing I know I’m craving it, and searching my iTunes playlist for that song I downloaded last week. Oh no, what was it called? Chubby Fingers! Fuck yeah. That was it. Never forget. Their chopped and screwed version of Art of Shades’ “All Away” is trippy and melodic with undertones of light dubstep and trap. Some of that good stoner music.
