Paul McCartney – Dance Tonight (2007)
Dir. Michel Gondry

So In case you didn’t know, the official 2009 Coachella lineup was released last week with the headliners Paul McCartney, The Killers, and The Cure. As well as dozens of smaller bands like Golden Bloggen favorites The Crookers, Crystal Castles, and Clipse. There has been some mixed reviews about the line up, but personally I think Coachella is always a great party with tons of great bands. True there are none of those explosive headliners like Rage, Daft Punk, Beastie Boys, Prince, Portishead, Madonna, and on and on.

So is Coachella slipping? I don’t think so, I think they are gonna add another headliner to Saturday to trump the Killers like they did last year. But hey Paul McCartney ain’t nothing to sneeze at. He’s still cool enough to work with people like Michel Gondry, Garreth, and Natalie Portman.

And I will be posting other videos from some of my favorite artists on that Coachella lineup. First up are the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with an animated video directed by TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe. I saw this video at Resfest 2003. Who has any idea what Resfest is? Anyone?

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Pins (2003)

Here’s the aforementioned Tunde with his band TV on the Radio. Dude is also in Oscar-Nominated film Rachel Getting Married. Dude stays busy.

TV on the Radio – Staring at the Sun (2004)
Dir. Elliot Jokelson

Sunday’s headliners are the Kings of Doom, The Cure. I’m actually kind of excited to see the Cure. I didn’t get enough of them on Black radio growing up obviously but a few Cure songs snuck into my childhood none-the-less. Beware Cure fans, your pale skin may not be able to handle that Coachella sun.

The Cure – Boys Don’t Cry (1986)
Dir: Tim Pope

Like The Cure, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and TV on the Radio, Franz Ferdinand have played Coachella before. They are one of my favorite new rock acts and this video was the first thing I saw from them back in 04. Great video.

Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out (2004)
Dir. Jonas Odell

This video even reminds me of Coachella. Watching Theivery Corp in the middle of the desert as the sun sets. Don’t get no better.

Thievery Corporation – Sweet Tides (2008)
Dir. Jolyon Hoff

I have to post the obligatory Hype Williams video and I had to post some more Hip-Hop. Lupe is maybe the biggest Hip-Hop act on the yet again pretty Hip-Hopless Coachella. Did you not see my list Goldenvoice? Where’s Dre and Snoop or Lil Wayne???

Lupe Fiasco – Superstar (2008)
Dir. Hype Williams

Very cool video about B-boy “Nosey” directed by former great Marcos Siega who has moved on to direct some pretty decent full length films.

Crystal Method – Name of the Game (2001)
Dir. Marcos Siega

There was some hype last year about Clipse at Coachella, but this year that dream is a reality. This Hip-Hop duo debuted earlier this decade with a full-length album of Neptunes produced tracks. They have since disappered without another release from a major record label, though they still have tons of love on the Hip-Hop blog circuit.

Clipse – Grindin (2002)
Dir. Bucky Chrome
