I know its not Old School Sunday but I am posting some older tracks from UK star Jamelia. Most Americans may have never heard of her but she has been big in Europe for the past decade. When I was studying in Spain in 2004, her single “Superstar” was a big hit out in Europe. Then Mr. Oizo remixed her single “Something About You” which got her some pub in the blog world. I was looking for that track the other day and couldn’t find it. I eventually did and thought it might be something dope to share with all of you guys.

One of my favoritte production teams, Brazilian duo the Twelves, came to Santa Monica this past weekend. For years the dance music scene in West LA has been dead, but recently Collaborative Media began throwing parties at V Lounge in Santa Monica with very respectable talent that has included Classixx, Holy Ghost!, and now the Twelves. To call the Twelves DJ’s would be a disservice to them. Their performance consists of them jamming out on synths as they re-create pop songs and indie dance tunes. They put their patented Twelves stamp on every track they drop. It is impossible not¬† to get down when these dudes are on stage. They will be coming back to L.A. later this year and you better believe I will be in attendance. If these guys come to your city, be sure to check them out. Trust me, it won’t be your average DJ show.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there. I am continuing to pay tribute to the very influential Guru who died a couple weeks back. Guru is most famously known as the MC of the Hip-Hop duo Gangstarr, but he has also released a few albums under his own name. In the 90’s he started a series of Hip-Hop meets Jazz albums called Jazzmatazz. In 2000, he released the third installment, which featured more soul singers than jazz musicians, which is why it is my favorite volume in the series. Some of the amazing singers on this album include Erykah Badu, Kelis, Angie Stone, Donnell Jones, Amel Larriuex, Les Nubians, Macy Gray, and more. The album also features production from legends like the Neptunes, J Dilla, DJ Premier,DJ Scratch, and the Roots.

Guru ft Macy Gray – All I Said (Prod. by The Neptunes)

Guru ft. Kelis – Supa Love (Prod. by The Neptunes)

Guru ft. Angie Stone – Keep Your Worries (Prod. by DJ Scratch)

It’s no secret how big of a Diplo fan I am, so I was real hyped to see him back on the Coachella line-up, this time with his boys Switch and Skerrit Bwoy as Major Lazer. I personally¬† thought they should have been in the dance tent, but they were going heads up against Producer of the moment David Guetta. Major Lazer gave the most live performance at Coachella. I wish I could bring you the whole set, but check out the 2 minute snippet above. In addition to the clip I also got a couple new Diplo remixes to share. Diplo has a wide range of musical production from chill-out electronica to hardcore electro. This time he gives his take on a couple of Slow Girl tracks. The first is from GB favorite and Coachella 2010 performer, Sia. The second is a chilling remix of new UK artist Sunday Girl. I don’t know how this dude keeps cranking out the gems, but everything Dip touches is gold.

This show just snuck up on me out of nowhere. I’ve been waiting for Moullinex to get his ass to LA for quite some time and Friday was my lucky day. To make the show even better, my boys Futurecop! (pictured above) were on the bill as well, playing a live set this time around. It was a real dance party, lasting until 3AM, a rarity in LA. Moullinex + Xinobi teamed up to play some groovy ass disco-tinged dance music and brought a gang of Pineapples to add some flavor to the set. I’m still unsure if D.I.S.C.O.Texas is a collaboration between Moullinex and Xinobi or if they are now a full-fledged label. Stay tuned for even more footage and tracks from Futurecop! and Moullinex during my Eurotrip in June. Golden Bloggen!

Sorry for the absence of recent, I’ve been partying a little too hard. But I got a lot of video footage to post and a shit load of new music in my inbox. For now I want to pay respect to a member of one of the best Hip-Hop groups of the 90’s, Guru of Ganstarr. Guru teamed up with my favorite Hip-Hop producer DJ Premier to form Gangstarr in the late 80’s. On April 19th, Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) succumbed to Cancer after falling into a coma. I had no idea dude was sick, but he will be missed. I will be posting some more Guru next week, so stay tuned.
