The French music celebration known as the Ooh LA LA! Festival returned to LA this weekend. The first day of the festival took place at the El Rey and included slick French singer Sebastien Tellier and a DJ Set from the always cool Kavinsky. I’ve been a huge fan of French pop music since Daft Punk and Air broke in the states in the late 90’s. And the French have continued to grow in popularity with Justice and the Ed Banger crew owning the dance floors over the past few years (though somewhat dying off recently). Kavinsky and Mr. Tellier are no strangers to the Ed Banger boom, as they have both worked with EB producer SebastiAn. Tellier also helped Mr. Oizo score his odd indie film Steak.

Kavinsky brought some of that French disco house to the El Rey for the late night party. A stark contrast from Sebastien Tellier’s acoustic set that preceded. Both were very impressive and it was great to see Kavinsky perform again, after what seemed like years of avoiding the States. Unfortunately, I did not see the Kavinsky “Dead Cruiser” T-shirt at the merch table. One of the best band tees of all time. But the whole night was a party. Make sure you check the Party Pics below.
