CIBO MATTO REUNION @ THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL!!!

Posted in CONCERTS on March 19, 2011 by Keyvon

I just got the Hollywood Bowl Summer calendar in the mail today and there was no way I could’ve predicted what I was going to see.  One of my all time favorite groups CIBO MATTO is reuniting for a show at the bowl. Cibo Matto’s original members Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori hail from New York via Japan. In my opinion they are the best, most adventurous girl group ever. And their live shows are something worth seeing. They broke up almost 10 years ago and I’m hyped that they’ll finally be playing together again. Headlining the event is Yellow Magic Orchestra. I’ve never heard of em but apparently their some big time Electro-pop pioneers out of Japan.

BEYOND WONDERLAND PREVIEW

Posted in CONCERTS on March 17, 2011 by Keyvon

Beyond Wonderland is set to rage this weekend at the race track in San Bernadino. Word is there will be no tickets sold at the door so be sure to buy your tickets HERE quickly if you plan to go.  And you can print out set times HERE.

We at Golden Bloggen are excited for Kaskade, Noisia, Joker, Calvin Harris, Congorock, Dirty South to name a few. Here’s a little background on some of our favorite artists at BW:

KASKADE
“Prior to being a recording artist, [Kaskade (he stage name for Ryan Raddon, a DJ/producer/remixer)] was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for he and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, “It’s You It’s Me”, which was well received by critics.” –Last.fm

DIRTY SOUTH

“Dirty South caught the technically transmitted disease of DJing long before he even owned his first set of turntables. He taught himself mixing skills on his NEC tape deck, utilising nothing more than its twin cassette players and a pause button to recreate the sounds of club DJing in the safety of his own bedroom. By the time he got his first decks at the start of the millennium he’d already honed the techniques ready to take on the world of his heroes. At the same time he was mastering the concept of DJing, Dirty South was also readying himself for a future in studio knob-twiddling.” –Last.fm

NOISIA
“NOISIA (who took their name from the word ‘VISION’ inverted on an upside down VHS tape) are Nik Roos, Thijs de Vlieger and Martijn van Sonderen, hailing from the Netherlands. Influenced by an eclectic range of artists, from The Prodigy to James Brown, Miles Davis to Konflict, Noisia make music for DJs and dance-floors that is interesting enough to cross over from the clubs to your MP3 player. ” –Last.fm

Posted in CONCERTS on March 11, 2011 by Keyvon

March is super-stacked with great shows for those of you in Los Angeles! This weekend has 3 amazing shows that we’d like to recommend for you guys.

Friday – Mr. Oizo with Tommy Lee and DJ Aero @ CONTROL Fridays, Avalon, Hollywood

“Mr. Oizo (pronounced ‘Monsieur Wah-zoh’) is the pseudonym of French music producer Quentin Dupieux. Dupieux is most famous for his electro track “Flat Beat”, which became a hit all across Europe in 1999 for being featured in a series of Levi’s jeans TV advertisements. Dupieux also directed the ad, which featured a yellow puppet named Flat Eric nodding his head to the sound of the track while riding in a pickup truck. Flat Eric later appeared in the music video for ‘Flat Beat'”. -Avalonhollywood.com

Saturday – DeVotchKa @ The Music Box, Hollywood

“Denver based group DeVotchKa’s new album 100 Lovers is now in stores everywhere. For this, their fifth record, the band again headed to the vastness of the Arizona desert with producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case). The resulting work is as epic as the landscape in which it was recorded, the 15 new songs offering an emotionally charged sonic expansiveness while retaining all the heartfelt romance and celebratory energy for which the group is known.” –devotchka.net

JESSICA LEA MAYFIELD

Posted in MUSIC on March 9, 2011 by Keyvon

Jessica Lea Mayfield is a relatively new folk rock singer out of Ohio. She may look really young, but don’t let the baby face fool you. Her new single “Our Hearts Are Wrong”, from her Sophomore LP Tell Me, has such a heart-tugging message, you can tell JLM has had her troubles with complicated relationships and unrequited love. I think this may be the best song of 2011 so far. The song-writing on this track is very impressive, personal yet Universal. If you can’t relate to this song, then fuck you cuz you are one lucky son of a bitch.

Miss Mayfield will be strumming her guitar at SXSW next week in Austin, TX. Give the young lady some love.

For all the devoted followers out there I apologize for being MIA for the past couple weeks. Been on vacation. Yes even bloggers go on vacation. But now I’m back. I’ll be posting some new impressive beats and ballads in the next few days. It’s been in heavy rotation at the crib and I played this last weekend at an unnamed spot on Cahuenga and it def does the trick.
