NEW MUSIC TUESDAY

Posted in MUSIC, MVM on January 29, 2013 by Keyvon

New albums usually drop Tuesday. Two weeks ago was A$ap Rocky. Today was Tegan and Sara. So far I’m very pleased with both purchases. A$ap’s got nice production from Clams Casino, guest spots from Danny Brown and the 3 guys in the video above. Tegan and Sara have the big girly power pop sound and are getting better with each album. Here is the Knocks remix of their first single “Closer”.

FLIGHT FACILITIES MEETS MOOMBAHTON

Posted in MUSIC on January 28, 2013 by Keyvon

2 things happened recently. 1) Flight facilities released a singles EP which reminded everyone how great their track “Crave You” from a couple years ago was. 2) I met Sabo, Moombahton and Mad Decent producer, at the KCRW studios. He threw me a few dozen Moombahton re-works and remixes. The first one that stood out was this sick remix from Harikiri. It was so good that it apparently won the Moombahsoul remix competition. Big ups to Harikiri and Flight Facilities for making these great genre-crossing tunes. And big ups to Sabo for all the great tracks he dropped on me. I will definitely be posting more of the gems he shared with me, including some of his own works.

CRYSTAL CASTLES “SAD EYES”

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on January 22, 2013 by Keyvon

I can’t begin to describe what the hell is going on in this new Crystal Castles video for “Sad Eyes” but I’ve always described them as the last great punk band who just happens to make electronic music. And if you ever see them live you may understand what I mean. Their videos are always dark, abstract, and downright disturbing. But I love their visuals, and more importantly their sound. And in the liner notes on their new album “Crystal Castles (III)” you actually get the lyrics! Read at your own risk.

KENSAYE

Posted in MUSIC on January 11, 2013 by Keyvon

My goal in life is to be the person with the most Aaliyah remixes in the world. I’ve got a hot track from Finnebassen and a cover by the Gossip, but this Kensaye remix is one of the best. Kensaye’s groovy, smoothed out electronic sound perfectly fits with Aaliyah’s low and sexy R&B. I’ve been listening to a lot of UK electronic soul recently, what I call Boom-Snap, and they are the closest to recreating that amazing sound that Aaliyah perfected. It’s a shame because it really is a distinct vibe that no one since Aaliyah has been able to conquer. So thank you Kensaye  for making Aaliyah fresh again.

ISRAELI FUNK FROM ADI

Posted in MUSIC, MVM on January 7, 2013 by Keyvon

Israeli born singer-songwriter Adi Ulmansky just sent me her wild music video for “A.D.I.” Her braggadocios track blends electronica and hip hop in a way where I can’t help but make comparisons to  another 3 lettered artist M.I.A. The song is fun and dancey but it was the video that made me take notice. The graphics and that home video quality is so bad its good. She has a mixtape dropping soon, so we’ll see if she is just a gimmick or the real deal.

COACHELLA 2013

Posted in MUSIC on January 2, 2013 by Keyvon

The Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA is my favorite time of year. The unveiling of the lineup is almost as fun as the festival itself. So every year I make a dream lineup which combines who I would love to see with who I’m guessing Coachella will book. I’ve usually get a good amount right. I’ve given up on Timberlake and Bowie, but of course Daft Punk is a mainstay. The lineup should be revealed in about a week or so. Tell me your thoughts.
