2MANYDJS @ SOUND NIGHTCLUB
Posted in CONCERTS, MUSIC on December 5, 2013 by KeyvonNot many people may know this, but 2ManyDjs are one of the most influential DJ Crews for my own personal DJ “career”. I first saw them in Barcelona in 2004, and my musical ears have never been the same. I had never seen someone play Daft Punk and hard German techno alongside the likes of Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was beautiful. I’ve seen them several times since then and love how they include visual effects to accompany their massively enjoyable mixes. These guys would be on the top of my list of DJs to see perform live. There’s really no equal. For those of you who are genre mash up junkies like me, and get bored by dubstep or trance DJ’s who play the same beat for 2 hours, 2ManyDjs are here to save you.
They are playing at Sound Nightclub in Hollywood tonight. Cop your tickets HERE.
SCHOOL NIGHT & TEEN FLIRT
Posted in CONCERTS, MUSIC on August 31, 2013 by KeyvonProud to announce that I will be spinning at Bardot in Hollywood this Monday as part of the highly touted “School Night” hosted by KCRW’s own Chris Douridas. This event has had some legendary talent come thru over the years and I’m proud to be spinning in between bands this Labor Day. If you are in the hood come thru for an eclectic night of underground jams.

I also am sharing some super indie jammies with you today. When I was in Monterrey, Mexico this March before SXSW, some natives hipped me to this electronica band named Teen Flirt. They have some pretty great demos, including this reworking of Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” called “Float”. And don’t miss their very creative Mixtape. Loving their sound. So hot right now!
CAMERA OBSCURA @ THE WILTERN
Posted in CONCERTS on June 20, 2013 by KeyvonScottish band Camera Obscura came to the Wiltern on Tuesday with a very pregnant lead singer, to promote their new album Desire Lines. Their sound is very similar to fellow Scots, Belle & Sebastian, who helped produce their debut full-length over 10 years ago. Camera doesn’t really knock your socks off with their stage presence. They’re a very calm and subdued band focused on sounding good and being in sync. The only member with a lot of energy was the tambourine/trumpet player. But you couldn’t tell that from the crowd’s response. It must have been some time since the band has come to LA, because the audience was uproarious. You would have thought you were at a Black Sabbath show. They would scream and cheer anytime any of the band members performed a solo, and new the words to all of band’s singles. The Wiltern’s stage seemed a little big for the band, but they needed the size of that house for all their devoted fans. I give the crowd an A, but the live performance, thought sonically perfect, was lacking in enthusiasm.

FILTER YACHT CLUB COACHELLA PARTY
Posted in CONCERTS, MUSIC with tags fun., mykill on April 10, 2013 by KeyvonSo great news everyone. I will be spinning at this year’s Filter Yacht Club Coachella party. I’m on Weekend 2, you can see my name “Keyvon Pierre” in beautiful teal. Hard work pays off. So below are a couple tracks I’ve been digging that will undoubtedly make it into my set.
The first is from blossoming UK siren Jessie Ware. Every time I hear her voice I am blown away by how much she sounds like Goapele. And I have yet another remix from MyKill. A few months ago I posted MyKill’s remix of fun.’s super poppy popular track “We Are Young”. I dug around his soundcloud and found this beautiful gem. Enjoy and get your lazy ass down to Indio on April 18th.
SXSW RECAP
Posted in CONCERTS, MUSIC on March 22, 2013 by KeyvonIt was a long journey getting to Austin for SXSW last weekend but it was well worth the trip. It was one of the most interesting festivals I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t really call it a festival, more like a city-wide music celebration. It’s how I imagine New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Every shoe store, coffee shop, clothier, or bar rooftop becomes a venue. It was pretty amazing. There were secret shows from Prince w/ A Tribe Called Quest and Justin Timberlake w/ Questlove and RJD2. I couldn’t talk my way into either of those, but there was tons of free music, so definitely no need to buy a badge for $600+. I got to check out Flaming Lips and Jim James for free, and afterwards a guy begged me to come to the rooftop of the W for a free Green Day show, but I fucking hate Green Day. Other super notables include Toro y Moi and St. Lucia. But I was pretty blown away by 17 year old XXYYXX (pictured above). I loved his trap heavy electronica he was dropping all night. He really got the crowd on his side. I see big things for this dude. Maybe a collaboration with the likes of an A$ap or Kendrick in the near future.
TEGAN & SARA AT CLUB NOKIA
Posted in CONCERTS, MUSIC on February 4, 2013 by KeyvonI love Tegan & Sara. I’ve seen them almost 10 times over the last 10 years. I love their bickering on stage and how they finish each others sentences like the musical version of the Sklar Brothers. Their new album “Heartthrob”, like all their other albums, is a fun collection of girl pop. They never change up their style too much. With T&S you know what you’re going to get, 10 or 12 three-minute perfect pop songs. But they have matured on stage. Their set was way more dancey than any performance I’ve seen from them. And of course their fanbase of frantic female fans who know all the words continues to grow. If you missed them at Club Nokia last Friday, make sure you catch them at Coachella in April.
